Windows Update offers me 4 Optional updates. I'll illustrate my problems by addressing only the 1st update above. Right-clicking on the 1st one and choosing 'Copy details' captures this text: 'EgisTec - Other hardware - EgisTec ES603 'Download size: 40 KB 'You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect. 'Update type: Optional 'EgisTec Other hardware software update released in September, 2011 'More information: ' (Note the size of that 1st driver: 40 Kbytes.) In Linux the link above is eventually redirected to In Windows the link is eventually redirected to Continuing with the 'Copy details' capture: 'Help and Support: ' In both Linux & Windows the link above is eventually redirected to I tried searching for 'EgisTec' & 'ES603' & 'EgisTec ES603' with no joy. The link simply goes to where I have the opportunity to start again or to go to THIS FORUM. Where can I go to download, for example, the EgisTec ES603 driver?

Lenovo (the maker of my laptop) points me here: but that driver is 3.8 Mbytes, not 40 Kbytes. My experience in the past has been that Lenovo has lost control of the updates and screws them up and has, as a management strategy, stopped updating. In other words, all their updates are very old.

Friends, I have an EgisTec ES603 scanner and I managed to get it working through an awkward cocktail of drivers and prayer. I'm happy to share my drivers and instructions. Download the ES603 driver here. EgisTec ES603 WDM Driver is a Shareware software in the category Security developed by Egis Technology Inc. Where is Microsoft getting its update info? Where can I download the drivers? Thank You for your attention and help. Thank you, Bill, Hi, Sometimes Microsoft gives you Updates for 3rd Party Hardware: Graphics, Network Adaptors, etc. You should only obtain the latest Drivers for them from the actual Hardware Manufacturer's website, as Microsoft normally does nor have those latest Drivers available as Microsoft relies of the 3rd Party Hardware Manufacturer to supply them.

Of course I agree, and I try to get drivers from the manufacturer's site, but Lenovo intentionally has old drivers (from 2010) and EgisTec, the device manufacturer, does not supply drivers to end users. I'm very experienced.

My 1st computer was an IMSAI-8080 that I built from kit in 1975 and that ran CP/M. I program in just about every language and I'm equally comfortable on the command line as with a mouse under my palm. Also, I'm an electronics engineer (BSEE, Ohio State Univ.) Microsoft must be getting drivers from the device manufacturers, otherwise Windows Update wouldn't know about the update.
